. it happened at san jose city college. abc7 news reporter john alston is there live with the latest for us. john? >> carolyn, that all clear came at 7:45. no shots were fired. no gunman was found. for about four hours, no one was quite sure. heavily-armed officers from san jose city college and the city police department swarmed over the campus where hundreds of students were in the middle of their exienl exams. their final exams. the officers searched all five floors of the technology building. >> the scarest part of the evening was when the police came in with their guns basically up. >> on the third floor were journalism students from the san jose college times who took pictures as the drama unfolded. reporters and photographers with the best vantage point. >> they came through the side door, the adjoining classroom and ordered us hands up, drop your cameras, drop whatever you are doing. at which point they told us what they were going to do. they were going to frisk us, check our bags and let us out. >> the search began around 4:30 when the college police department's dispatch center g

the russian river has risen. a flood warning has just been issued. alan wang joins us live in sonoma county with the latest. >> hi, larry. along the santa rosa creek, the water level hasn't changed much. it may have risen one or two feet in the past three days, but that's because the city has an excellent storm drainage system. they are seeing a dramatic change in the river levels. >> by sunday into monday it will be up to here. the flood stage or the expectations at gernville is 32 feet. >> bill hutchinson whose trailer sits on the russian river says he has watched the river rise 17 feet since this morning. he is packing up and heading for higher ground tomorrow. >> it is not worth it. fortunately my little house has wheels on. it. >> even the creatures are headed for high ground. west of santa rosa, several low-lying back roads are flooded, and it only took a foot of water to stall out this car. >> we were coming from windsor and going to the mall. >> samuel saw the flood signs and he started to cross. >> once we got to the water we saw the smoke coming out and he turned the car back off

maldonado for the loss of her daughter and her parents. she told us she has no warning a fire has started and she didn't hear any alarms. the families were joined by their family with the rosary. all three died in a fire that destroyed the second floor apartment on bridgeport court in west san jose. cecilia maldonado lost her parents and child in a single night. >> the fire alarm didn't go off. >> she says she tried to save them. >> i know my brother's room was on fire. i ran out and tried to get the fire distinguisher and broke the glass. i couldn't put it out. >> she says kyra decided to sleep in her parents' back bedroom. >> they took care of me and my baby. >> the two-alarm fire started 11:00 p.m. on saturday and was quickly put out by the more than 50 firefighters who responded. two other people were taken to a local hospital as was a san jose police officer who suffered smoke inhalation after rescuing a resident. this man who declined to give his name lived below the apartment. he came by to get what he could salvage. he says he and his girlfriend woke up to screams. >> we freaked o
intersection closed. good evening. thank you so much for joining us. i'm ama dates. we have live team coverage of our storm wach. lilian kim is on the peninsula where a creek over ran its banks. and there was lots of flooding in the north bay where cornell bernard is. we start with leigh glaser. leigh? >> what a difference about six, eight hours makes. live doppler 7hd, very active earlier this morning beginning at 7:00 a.m. as the cold front moved through. now you could barely even tell we had any rain at all. we are looking live now, folks, and you can see the receive rain has pushed on to the south and east of the bay area. still getting a few little sprinkles here and there between morgan hill and hollister. mainly at the higher elevations, but most of the rain, or actually all of the rain has moved out of the area. we did have quite a bit of rainfall. we still have a couple of river watches. these are river watches in affect until tomorrow morning. the river right now is at 27 feet. it looks like it will crest tomorrow morning below flood stage at 30 feet. the napa river in napa 23 feet r

to get the power back on. good evening. thank you for joining us. i'm ama dates. we do have team coverage tonight. we begin with meteorologist leigh glaser. leigh? >> this time last night i was telling you that the heaviest part of the storm system was going to hit us about 7:00 this morning. in fact, i went ahead and captured the image of live doppler 7hd. specifically at 7:50 this morning you can clearly see the heaviest part of the storm making its way just over the golden gate bridge indicated by the deep reds and the oranges and the yellows and all of that moisture quickly pushed to the south. here is another shot of it by the way from our satellite-radar composite. live doppler 7hd is not showing any moisture at all out there. yes, it does look like we get a respite tonight and tomorrow, but more rain is in my accu-weather seven-day forecast. we'll get to that a little later. >> leigh, thank you. a huge gaping hole in a roadway is causing major problems for some lafayette residents. abc7 news reporter alan wang is live from the area with what this means for neighbors. alan? >> this

ran him down. good evening. thanks for joining us on this christmas eve. >> this is a tragic holiday for a vallejo map and family. he's fighting for his life tonight after being hit by a car. it happened at broadway at hogan avenue next to highway 37. abc 7 news reporter allen live near the scene tonight with late details on the developing story. allen? >>reporter: the police are still looking for the suspect or suspects involved in this tonight. we are told the victim was air-lifted to john muir hospital in walnut creek in grave condition and that was at last check. this was a high impact hit-and-run with a debris field scattered across broadway street here in north vallejo. police believe the man was struck and knocked about 50 feet by either one or 2 vehicles that were drag racing down the northbound lanes of broadway around 5:30 this evening. detectives label about 50 paces of evidence many of them were the personal effects belonging to the unidentified victim. the rest were parts of the vehicle or vehicles involved. police say the cars are known to speed up and down t

reporter alan wang is there and joins us live with the latest. alan? >> let me show you the hole that the san mateo bomb squad dug up to detonate and bury some highly volatile chemicals. they also boarded up the windows to protect them from the concussion of the blast. but i am told the shock waves were so strong they still shattered every window. it started out as a hazardous materials clean up project called in by the wife of the former chem mystery -- chem mystery teacher who passed away. after analyzing the jars and jars of chemicals hazmat evacuated the met neighbors because two of the jars contained highly volatile chemicals. >> that was period we were told that was stuff that was taken care of on site. >> the acid is considered an explosive just like tnt and ether can be explosive. 500 homes are issued a warning. those neighbors who were evacuated are back in their homes. reporting live in san mateo, alan wang, abc7 news. >> thank you. >>> a south bay freeway became a crime scene after it fired into a moving car. it happened near stevens creek boulevard. leslie brinkley is
